Installing open-source software takes an hour. Running it securely and reliably over time is the real work, and that's exactly what we take on.
- Data centre in Innsbruck, contract and point of contact in Austria, data processing agreement included.
- No unnecessary outbound connections: version checks, external map services and model downloads are switched off or handled once during setup. Only if you use sign-in via a Microsoft or Google account does the server talk to that provider.
- Facial recognition off by default. Facial data is biometric data. We only enable this feature after jointly reviewing the legal basis and licence.
- Security updates promptly, version fixed, updates only after our review, never applied automatically without checking.
- Backup following the 3-2-1 rule: photos and database, backed up separately from the server, restore tested.
- Round-the-clock monitoring of server and application, access only encrypted via HTTPS.
Frequently asked questions
What software is behind this?
The webx Photo Archive is based on the open-source software Immich (licence AGPL-3.0). We are not an official partner of the project; we set up, secure and operate the software for you. The advantage: no vendor can take features away or raise licence prices on you.
Does the search understand German?
Yes. We configure a multilingual search model so that a query in German works just as well as in English. How good the results are for your collection, we test together with your team's typical search terms at launch.
Are my photos sent to an AI in the cloud?
No. Image recognition runs directly on your virtual server. There is no cloud service in between, and your material is never used to train third-party models.
What happens to my existing archive?
We first connect your existing collection in read-only mode. The original files stay unchanged, and you can keep using your old storage in parallel until everything is in place. Existing tags from IPTC and XMP data are carried over.
Can I share photos with the press and partners?
Yes, via share links to an album. You decide whether downloads are allowed, whether a password is required, and when the link expires. Recipients don't need an account.
Is this a media database with usage rights and photo credits?
Not in the strict sense. The Photo Archive is strong at finding, organising and sharing. If you need to manage usage rights, licence terms and approval workflows, let's talk beforehand about whether a classic media database is a better fit.
And if I want to switch later?
Your originals exist as ordinary files. You get them back in full at any time, with no export fee and no proprietary format.
